In 2008 the decision was made to move solely into Aberdeen-Angus cattle. The herd now comprises of 100 plus pedigree Angus cows and store cattle are taken from the family's other farm to Isauld for finishing. Cows are out-wintered on the sandy links until January when they are taken inside for calving before turnout in April.
The herd began with purchases from Spittalshore and the Castle of Mey with a further 25 cows being purchased at Mr D Oag's Dalmore dispersal. More females were purchased in 2009 and 2010 which has taken us to our current number.
Bull calves are kept entire with the best being kept for our own use or offered for sale. They are wintered on a predominantly home grown diet of silage, straw, oats and barley. Select heifers are kept as replacements or also offered for sale.
Embryo transfer work has been carried out each year, initially with embryos being purchased from Canada and America and in 2010 we started flushing our own top performing cows to further establish our main breeding families. AI is also used on select females each year.
We welcome any visitors and enquiries and will always make the time to show people round the herd
